What are the key points associated with a long jump? (bending the kness, swinging arms on take off)
What are the key points associated with a high jump? (bending the knees, swinging arms on take off, side on to the bar)
Set up an area with hoops and spots spread out that are jumping distance apart. Players begin in hoops or on spots and must jump on the spots and hoops to get away from the taggers. Taggers must also jump around on the hoops and spots trying to tag their classmates. If tagged, the player must jump to the outside of the playing area and complete 5 star jumps before re-entering the game.
Change the type of jump - 1:2 Select a different task to complete if tagged Add in or remove taggers to alter difficulty
Get the students to line up beside each other behind a row cones. Make sure there is enough space for the students to swing their arms without touching the person beside them. Ask the students to jump forward without bending their knees (ie keeping legs straight), and have their arms by their side. Once the students have completed this jump get them to observe how far they jumped and then return to the line. Repeat the above process using the following: - Arms by their sides, allowing knees to be bent - Arms allowed to be swung, knees allowed to be bent - As above but now jumping from 1 foot and landing on 2 (1:2) - As above but now a few steps run up - As above but now a run up from further back.
Modifications of different jumping included within activity: - Arms by side, legs straight - Arms by side, legs allowed to be bent - Arms allowed to be swung, legs allowed to be bent - Arms allowed to be swung, legs allowed to be bent, taking off from 1 foot landing on 2 (1:2) - Arms allowed to be swung, legs allowed to be bent, jumping 1:2, allowing a run up
Set up three sets of high jumps in a triangle shape, with two at the front and one at the back. Ensure there is enough space for the students to run up at each high jump - don't have them too close. Place a row of tall cones in a banana shape in front of each high jump, this shows the students where to run so that they end up side on with the high jump. Students use a scissor jump technique and the leg that is closest to the high jump bar is the leg that is lifted first. Encourage the students to swing their arms up at the same time to help create lift - as if they are reaching up for a balloon that has been let go. Once the student jumps over the first high jump they continue on to the high jump at the back. Once they have completed TWO high jumps they go to the back of the other line. Key points: Banana Run (to end up side on) Scissor Kick (leg closest to the bar lifts first, use straight legs) Balloon Reach (swing arms up to help create lift)
