In pairs one student will hold the ball with two hands, facing his/her partner. The child takes one step and kicks/passes the ball to their partner who catches the ball and kicks/passes it back. The aim is to see how many catches each pair can make without the ball bouncing in 2 minutes.
One round will be on the drop punt kick and the other round will be on passing.
Teaching points for the drop punt kick: laces away from faces, line ball up with target, spread fingers when holding the ball pointing down, hold ball same side as kicking leg, toes is where it goes (point your toes at your target), see the ball hit the foot, ball should spin backwards in the air.
Teaching points for Handball (passing): one hand under the ball, end of the ball pointing slightly up, punch the ball with a downward motion of the back top of the ball, contact arm should be bent, almost to a 90-degree angle, step forward with opposite foot when contacting the ball, swing arms forward to promote momentum. The ball must spin backward!
Teaching points for catching: eyes focused on the ball, position your body in line with the ball, have arms out ready, move forward to meet the ball.
Make distance smaller or bigger. Allow one bounce.
Change type of ball, go closer to partner.
Students form a kicking and a fielding team. The first kicker kicks the ball into the field (if ball goes wide, the kick is taken again) and the entire team runs around the field as a group to
the finishing line. The fielders gather the ball and handball it to each other. When all the fielders have touched
the ball, they call out “stop”. Each member of the kicking team who reaches the finishing line before
“stop” is called, scores one point. Each member of the kicking team has a turn at kicking before the teams swap.
CHANGE IT
1. Fielding team can run and carry the ball a maximum of five steps before releasing their handball.
2. Kicking team considers strategies that exploit the playing space
to create gaps and increase the pressure on fielding team.
Make playing size bigger or smaller.
change type of ball, can throw instead of kicking the ball.
Aim is to get the ball to your player on the cone.
- Players move the ball via handball.
- A point is scored when the player in the designated area marks the ball. The player inside that area can move anywhere in their designated space but cannot leave that area.
- A turnover results from an opposition player marking the ball or the ball hitting the ground.
- No tackling or bumping. This is non-contact.
- Players can take 3-7 steps then must get rid of the ball
(vary depending on skill level of players).
- Players have 3-5 seconds to dispose of the ball (vary depending on skill level of players).
- At no point can the ball or a player with the ball leave the square. Turnover results if they do.
-No player can go within the circle around the player on the cone. If an opponent does, this results in an uncontested penalty.
- If a team scores the other team starts with the ball in the middle. Each team must start in their half.
Increase/decrease number of players, change the type of ball, include kicking
Change the type of ball, decrease playing size.
