Warm Up

Stability (Dynamic Balance) - Line Tag

Students run around in an area that has lines on the ground e.g. basketball court. If you have no lined concrete area simply just get chalk and make your own lines. Students are only allowed to run on the lines throughout the duration of the game. If a student gets tagged by one of the designated "taggers", they then have to run out of the area and do five star jumps before re-entering the game.

Activities

Stability (Dynamic Balance) - Penguin Walk

Each child gets a beanbag (penguin egg) to place on their foot. Children must moving around inside the area, keeping the beanbag balanced on their foot. Spots are spread out inside the area (ice holes). If the beanbag gets dropped then they have to do 5 star jumps before continuing on. If the beanbag gets dropped onto an ice hole then have to do 10 star jumps before continuing.

Stability (Dynamic Balance) - Cone Balance

Split class into 4-5 lines. Each line has 5 spots set up in a line in front them with cones beside each spot. The first person hops onto the first spot, balances on one foot and moves the cone from the side to the front. Repeat all the way to end of the line. The child then runs back and tags the next person in line. The next person moves the cone from the front to the side and so on.

Trophy Beans

Children start with a beanbag balanced on their head. Children explore the area with as many types of movements as possible without the beanbag falling off.

Encourage children to repeat ideas shown from other children.

Ask children to balance the beanbag on different parts of the body and still travel around the area provided.

Encourage children to travel with high and low bodies.

On the coach’s whistle children have to stand still in a chosen sporting position. Example, children could stand in a karate position with the beanbag balanced on their head. Guess two or three then repeat the game.

Choose a child to guess some of the frozen sporting positions.

This time children travel around the area with the beanbag balanced on a body part. On the teacher’s whistle girls stay still making a bridge shape whilst the boys travel through the bridges with their beanbags balanced. Play for 1 minute then repeat the game with the boys making the bridges.

Modifications

Make playing area bigger/smaller
