Where do we need to stand on defence? (Between our player and the hoop)
What is something we can we do with our hands? (Mirror the ball)
Split group into four teams and have two teams lined up side by side with one group in front of the other (slightly staggered). Have the remaining teams (two) lined up in the same formation but opposite each other with a 5-10metre distance.
The player at the front of the staggered line will move in front of the player from the other team and will be the defender, whilst the other player will be the attacker. Both players then move to the other side without a ball, the attacker playing passively but the defender staying in front ( teaching point: defender = piggy in the middle between attacker and the hoop) the whole time (teaching point: protect the hoop as you don't get points for the stealing the ball). Once both players have reached the other side, they will then move to the back and sit down to indicate they have had a turn whilst the next two players at the front of the lines will repeat this back.
Once everyone has had a turn through, introduce a basketball and get players to repeat this through.
Teaching points:
- ensure defenders hands are up and following the ball
- staying in the 'middle' to protect the hoop
